Manganese Sulphate is manganese (II) sulphate tetrahydrate. It contains not less than 98.0% and not more than 100.5% of MnSO4, calculated with reference to the substance ignited at 450° to 500°.CHARACTERISTICS

Manganese Sulfate contains not less than 98.0 percent and not more than 102.0 percent of MnSO4·H2O.
Loss on ignition— Ignite it at 450 to constant weight: it loses between 10.0% and 13.0% of its weight.
Substances not precipitated by ammonium sulfide— Dissolve 2.0 g in 90 mL of water, add 5 mL of ammonium hydroxide, warm the solution, and pass hydrogen sulfide through the solution for about 30 minutes. Dilute with water to 100 mL, mix, and allow the precipitate to settle. Decant the supernatant through a filter, transfer 50 mL of the clear filtrate to a tarred dish, evaporate to dryness, and ignite, gently at first and finally at 800 ± 25 : the weight of the residue does not exceed 5 mg (0.5%).
